Legend of the Koi

Koi (also known as Carp) have been thought of to have deep meaning and significance. Traditionally, koi have been associated with strength, courage and perseverance. According to Japanese legend, if a koi succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River, it would be transformed into a dragon. It was because of this legend that koi became known as a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement. And in Buddhism, it is believed that humans "swim" through the "ocean of suffering" without fear, just like the courageous koi swims through water.

Artist Statement: "I am fascinated with art as a visual equivalent to energy. I want my finished pieces to act as an arena for visual activity. I transfer my internal energy through the brush to the canvas highlighting the intricacy, spontaneity, and fluidity of my Asian-themed representations. My rhythmic work includes i-media prints to multimedia decoupage paintings made of oils, acrylics, enamels, hand cut stencils, interference paint and epoxy resins." - retrieved from http://www.flynashville.com/arts/quarterly/HungHa.aspx on 1/8/11
